The Democratic National Convention will wrap up on Thursday night in Philadelphia with Hillary Clinton formally accepting the presidential nomination. As KMUW’s Sean Sandefur reports, delegates have found the speeches from First Lady Michelle Obama and others inspiring.
The Democratic National Convention has been historic. Hillary Clinton is the first woman to ever be nominated for president by a major party. She’ll formally accept that role on Thursday night.
Nathan Bales, a Bernie Sanders delegate from Winfield, Kansas, says there are still some Bernie Sanders supporters who are reluctant to back Clinton, but many have found unity in the speeches given each night.
“Oh, it’s an absolute inspiration," Bales says. "Particularly Michelle’s speech. I think that really resonated with some of Bernie’s supporters.”
Bales says Sanders' success as a candidate has forced the party to become more progressive. He hopes to hear Clinton touch on climate change in tonight’s speech, an issue he says hasn’t been addressed enough so far.
