Kansas African American Museum Selects New Executive Director

TKAAM

The Kansas African American Museum in Wichita (TKAAM) has a new executive director.

Denise Sherman will begin her new role next week.

Sherman most recently served as a director in the professional studies program at Southwestern College in Wichita.

“I am excited to have this opportunity of leadership and I look forward to working with the Board of Directors, the museum staff and our museum membership and all our supporters to take TKAAM to the highest level possible,” Sherman said in a news release.

She previously held leadership positions with WSU Tech (formerly Wichita Area Technical College), Carter-Sherman Broadcast Group and Southwest Manufacturing.

Sherman’s volunteer and community service includes serving as a governing board member for the Downtown Wichita Rotary, Wichita SHRM, Kansas Public Television Service and Wichita Festivals, Inc.

The museum’s previous executive director, Mark McCormick, left in May to become communications director for the American Civil Liberties Union of Kansas in Overland Park.
