Injured Wichita Police Officer Transferred To Rehabilitation Center

Wichita Police Department Facebook

A Wichita Police officer who was injured last month when he was struck by a vehicle was transferred to a rehab facility on Monday.

Officer Brian Arterburn, a 25-year veteran of the Wichita Police Department, will continue his recovery at Craig Hospital, a rehabilitation center in Englewood, Colorado that specializes in traumatic brain injuries. He flew out of Wichita Monday morning.

He has been in the hospital since early February after he was run over by a stolen vehicle. He was laying down tire spikes when he was struck. Arterburn was injured in his abdomen, chest and head.

The suspect in the incident, Justin Terrazas, was booked into the Sedgwick County Jail shortly after on charges of attempted first-degree murder and theft.

Police didn’t say how long Arterburn is expected to receive treatment in Colorado. They said in a message posted to Facebook that the support from the community has been “overwhelming.”
