Allen is a small business owner from a sixth generation farm family in the southern Kansas City of Kiowa in Barber County.

She ran as a Republican in a state senate race back in 2012 and lost in the primary by a close vote. Allen says she’s taking a different path for her Congressional campaign.

"I feel that the parties push the candidates so far towards whatever direction is best for them that the candidates aren’t allowed to really represent their districts, and that’s why I became an independent," she says.

Allen says economic development and job growth are big issues in the 4th District.

Two Democrats are also going for Pompeo’s job. Daniel Giroux and Robert Tillman will face off in the Democratic Primary on Tuesday.

In the 1st Congressional District, another candidate has entered the race. Alan LaPolice filed petitions with nearly 9000 signatures on Monday to run as an independent.

Representative Tim Huelskamp is currently facing a challenge by Roger Marshall in the Republican Primary.
