Guadalupe Clinic’s South Planeview Clinic Expanding

http://catholicdioceseofwichita.org

One of the safety-net health clinics in Wichita is expanding to serve more patients who are under-insured or don’t have medical insurance. KMUW’s Deborah Shaar has more...

Guadalupe Clinic’s South location on South Hillside in Planeview will be adding two examination rooms and upgrading the workspace and laboratory areas.

Guadalupe Clinic’s Executive Director David Gear says the South Clinic provided health care to 126 people when it opened three years ago. This year he says they might see up to 800.

“That’s a significant growth that’s projected and, at this rate, we’re hopeful that this expansion will be enough to last us into the next three or four years,” Gear says.

Gear says donations and grants will fund the expansion project.

The work is expected to take two months and the clinic will stay open during that time.

The South Clinic is located at 2825 South Hillside Street. It is open Monday from 9 a.m.-noon and 1-4 p.m. Tuesday-Thursday 1-4 p.m. and Friday 9 a.m.-noon.

Guadalupe Clinic operates two additional health clinics for people who are under-insured or don’t have any insurance. Doctors and nurses volunteer their time and services at the clinics.

Guadalupe Clinic’s Central location at 940 South St. Francis opened in 1985 and will mark its 30th anniversary this year. The North Clinic, which is near the Lord’s Diner on North Broadway, opened last year.

The Guadalupe Clinics are a ministry of the Catholic Diocese of Wichita and it serves without regard to a client’s religion or creed.

Services offered include physician visits, health screening and education, pregnancy tests, nutrition counseling, assistance with prescriptions, medical appliances such as braces as well as other services. Emergency food, infant formula, and diapers can also be provided.

In addition, the clinic has access to specialty care including orthopedics, oncology, MRI scanning, general surgery, and prenatal care. These services are provided in conjunction with area hospitals and laboratories. Working directly with drug manufacturers, the clinic annually provides its patients with well over one-half million dollars in free medications.
