The Great Plains United Methodist Conference will be holding an active shooter training in Wichita next month. It's in response to the many questions they've been receiving after the recent church shooting in Sutherland Springs, Texas.
Hollie Tapley, disaster response coordinator for the Great Plains United Methodist Conference, says when she got to her office the Monday morning after the shooting, her email inbox was full of people with questions.
“Within a 30-minute period of time I had 12 churches that were wanting a training," she says.
Tapley says she hopes the active shooter training will help people be more aware.
“I want people to begin to have eyes that when you go into a building you’re not familiar with, let me find the doors, let me just look, let me see the layout," she says. "Because we do live in a world that is much different and we can’t be naive about it.”
The training is open to the public and will also be live streamed on Wichita's Chapel Hill United Methodist Church website.
