Global Village highlights global violins – including music from November featured artist Guo Gan, master of the erhu, the distinctive two-string traditional Chinese violin. We’ll also hear the Sultans of String with a 50 piece orchestra, Caribbean violin-based groups Malavoi and Orquesta Aragon, Norwegian fiddler Annbjorg Lien, All Ireland Fiddle Champion Liz Carroll, the all-fiddle Finnish group JPP, the Nordic Fiddlers Bloc, and more.
Tuesday, November 20
This time in the Global Village, the program is devoted to music of India. Among the highlights, the legendary Ravi Shankar (with a piece he composed with Phillip Glass), his daughter Anoushka Shankar and nephew (and raga-rock pioneer) Ananda Shankar, the Indian blues of Michael Messer’s Mitra, Iranian sitarist Abbas Mehrpouya, the contemporary sounds of Tabla Beat Science, acclaimed sarodist Ali Akbar Khan, and the classic Call of the Valley album.
Wednesday, November 21
A triple birthday celebration in the Global Village for three legendary Spanish composers – Tárrega (11.21), Rodrigo (11.22) and de Falla (11.23) – with some of their most famous compositions performed by John Williams, Julian Bream, the Miles Español project, and more.
Thursday, November 22
Global Village serves up a feast for the holiday with songs about food. On the menu, Rice, Red Beans and Turnip Greens, Sweet Pumpkin, Hot Cross Buns with some Frim Fram Sauce and other musical delicacies.

Friday, November 23
Global Village highlights global guitars – including music from November featured artist Bert Jansch. We’ll also hear music from one of Africa’s finest guitarists, Djelimady Tounkara, German-born African-inspired guitarist Leni Stern, Swedish flamenco guitarist Robi Svard, and Cuban guitarist and Buena Vista member Manuel Galban. Plus new music from Malian singer and songwriter Fatoumata Diawara, and old school Latin soul and funk band the Hip Spanic Allstars.
