Fools, Fish & A Rainbow

Tuesday, May 1 

After more than a decade focusing on retro R&B sounds, the Austin, Texas band The Nightowls has decided to focus on the present. The group’s brand-new album, We Are The Nightowls, retains the band’s classic sensibilities while offering listeners something new. We’ll hear music from this release plus selections from Low Cut Connie’s Dirty Pictures, Part Two.

Wednesday, May 2

In The Rainbow Rain is the latest recording from Okkervil River, we’ll hear music from that release on this episode as well as music from the Icelandic band, Árstíðir (English translation: Seasons).

Thursday, May 3

 Released in 1975, Fish Out Of Water is the sole solo release from Yes co-founder Chris Squire. The album features guest appearances from Mel Collins (King Crimson) and Bill Bruford (Yes, King Crimson) and others. We’ll hear selections from it as well as music from the black watch.

Friday, May 4

It’s our New Month, New Music special with music from Willie Nelson, John Prine and more.

Saturday, May 5

 Released in 1985, Around The World In A Day was Prince and The Revolution’s follow up to the multi-million selling Purple Rain album. Featuring a turn toward the psychedelic, the record also features two songs co-written by Prince’s father, John L. Nelson. We’ll hear music from this release as well as selections from Ice Cream Castle, the 1984 effort from The Time.

Monday, May 7

 Listen for selections from The Fool, the 2018 EP from Crisis Casanova plus music Parade, the 1986 album from Prince which also served as the soundtrack to the film Under The Cherry Moon.

Jedd Beaudoin is host/producer of the nationally syndicated program Strange Currency. He has also served as an arts reporter, a producer of A Musical Life and a founding member of the KMUW Movie Club.
