Sedgwick County commissioners delayed making a decision Wednesday about the future location of a new county administration building.
The county plans to move departments out of the current courthouse to free up space for the district attorney’s office and the court system.
The commissioners discussed the three options they are considering. Those include buying and renovating the Riverview building, near Second and Waco, or a downtown building on North Main. The third option is constructing a new building next to the Sedgwick County Courthouse.
Commissioner Michael O'Donnell said that he couldn’t make a decision Wednesday from the information available and moved to delay the decision until after the county budget is approved.
Commission Chairman David Dennis agreed.
“I think that the right time to take a look at this is after we approve a budget, approve the CIP (Capital Improvement Plan) and find out exactly what our financial situation is for 2019,” he said.
Commissioner Jim Howell said because this is an election year the decision may have to be delayed until 2019. Both Howell and Commissioner Richard Ranzau are up for re-election in November; commissioner Dave Unruh is not seeking re-election.
