A change is coming to the Sedgwick County Commission.

Voters in the 3rd District elected challenger David Dennis over incumbent Commissioner Karl Peterjohn in Tuesday night’s Republican primary.

As election results came in, David Dennis had an early lead in the race and never gave it up. The unofficial county results show Dennis received 55 percent of the vote to Karl Peterjohn’s 44 percent.

"I think they were looking for a change in the leadership of Sedgwick County," Dennis says. "I think they were looking for someone who listens to the citizens of Sedgwick County. And I think they were looking for someone who will pay attention to what their issues are."

Dennis, a former State Board of Education chairman and retired Air Force Colonel, says he entered the race because he was concerned about how the conservative majority was handling the county’s finances.

He will face Goddard Mayor Marcey Gregory in the General Election.

The Sedgwick County Commission District 2 seat is also up for election. After going unopposed in the primary, Democratic incumbent Tim Norton will face Republican Michael O’Donnell in the general election.
