Capps Selected To Fill Vacancy In 85th House District

Michael Capps

Republican officials selected Michael Capps of Wichita to fill the vacancy for the Kansas House 85th District.

Capps replaces former Rep. Chuck Weber, who resigned July 14 to work for the Kansas Catholic Conference. Capps is expected to be sworn in within a week; he will serve the remainder of Weber’s term.

Capps is running for re-election for the seat in November. His opponent, Democrat Monica Marks, has previously challenged whether or not Capps lived in the 85th district. The residency challenge seeking to remove Capps from the ballot was denied by state officials in June.

District 85 includes parts of Bel Aire, Kechi and Wichita.
