Blues Harmonica Legends & Living Blues Awards Winners

August 19/21

This week at the Crossroads, for the August Blues Harmonica feature, it’s blues harp legends – the key figures who made the harmonica a central instrument in the blues, pioneering  new sounds and styles, and developed their own distinctive approach to the instrument. Among the artists featured are Big Walter, Little Walter, Junior Wells, James Cotton, Sonny Terry, Billy Boy Arnold, and Sonny Boy Williamson I and II.

Plus new music from Moreland & Arbuckle, the Bo Diddley Collection, the Soul of John Black, Mel Brown and C.W. Stoneking – and more of the recently announced Living Blues Awards winners.

Chris Heim produces and hosts Global Village, a nationally and internationally distributed world music show; the nightly jazz show Night Train, and Crossroads, KMUW’s twice-weekly blues and R&B show. Chris is also a critic and freelance writer whose work has appeared in the Chicago Tribune, Utne, Global Rhythm, Dirty Linen, and Option, among others.
