Crossroads continues the July feature celebrating the 80th birthday of Mavis Staples (July 10) with music she did with the Staple Singers, as a guest with John Scofield on an album in tribute to Ray Charles, from one of her classic solo albums, and in hour two, in performance at Newport.
The 12th of July is the birthday of Christine McVie. Though best known for her work with Fleetwood Mac, she had earlier been a member of the British blues rock band, Chicken Shack. We’ll hear her with them on their biggest hit and with a song she wrote for the band.
Plus music from blues artists with local and regional concert dates in the coming week, and new music from the Texas Horns, Bob Corritore, and Kenny ‘Beedy Eyes’ Smith.
