An Award-Winning Show & Drum Wrap

May 31/June 2

It’s an award-winning program this time at the Crossroads – and award nominated too, as the program highlights the recently announced Blues Music Awards winners and blues nominees in both the Americana Music Awards and Independent Music Awards.

Crossroads also wraps up the May Drum Month feature with more blues drummers, including Muddy Waters’ alum Willie ‘Big Eyes’ Smith, Tom Hambridge, and Big Mama Thornton, who though best known as a singer (“Hound Dog,” “Ball and Chain”), also played drums and harmonica.

And there’s new music from the B.B. King Blues Band, Nick Schnebelen, the Lee Boys, the Alexis P. Suter Band, Sugaray Rayford, and more.

Chris Heim produces and hosts Global Village, a nationally and internationally distributed world music show; the nightly jazz show Night Train, and Crossroads, KMUW’s twice-weekly blues and R&B show. Chris is also a critic and freelance writer whose work has appeared in the Chicago Tribune, Utne, Global Rhythm, Dirty Linen, and Option, among others.
