Attorney General Gathering Input On Signs For Places That Bar Openly Carried Firearms

Kan. Attorney Gen. Derek Schmidt is holding a meeting Wednesday, May 28, to discuss regulations for signs that people must post to keep guns off their premises. Schmidt's office is soliciting public input about what should be required for the new "no-gun signs."

A new state law allowing open carrying of firearms takes effect in July. The new law keeps cities and counties from regulating firearms, ensuring it's legal to carry firearms state-wide. However, many businesses, churches, and other organizations will still be able to bar concealed and unconcealed guns from their premises if they post the new signs. The attorney general's office must dictate what goes on them.

Today's meeting is at 3 p.m. in Memorial Hall, 120 SW 10th Ave., in Topeka.
