In 1971, Los Angeles’ Halfneslon released its first and only album. By the summer of 1972 the record, which was produced by Todd Rundgren, was re-released under a brand-new band name, Sparks. It would begin 40-plus-year career for the group whose solo original members remain brothers Ron and Russel Mael. We’ll hear selections from that release as well as from the collaborative release between Sparks and Scottish band Franz Ferdinand, FFS.
Tuesday, September 11
Rainier Fog is the latest album from Alice In Chains. It’s the band’s third with vocalist William DuVall and marks the first time in over 20 years that the group recorded an album in its hometown of Seattle, Washington. We’ll hear music from that release as well as selections from Richard Thompson’s 2007 disc, Sweet Warrior.
Wednesday, September 12
And Nothing Hurt is the eighth album from Spiritualized and the first from the project since 2012. Listen for music from that as well as from The Cure’s remix album, Mixed Up, which was reissued earlier this year in expanded form.
Thursday, September 13
We’ll hear music from Truth Has Legs, the latest by singer-songwriter Jenny Wood as well as selections from This Bluebird Wants Me Dead by Vehicles.
Friday, September 14
Kiss Yr Frenemies is the new release from Illuminati Hotties, the name under which musician Sarah Tudzin performs. We’ll hear music from that as well as selections from Ike Reilly’s Crooked Love effort.
Saturday, September 15
Released in 1981, Healing was Todd Rundgren’s exploration of spirituality and the human condition. We’ll hear selections from that album as well as from Mike Keneally’s Wooden Smoke.
Monday, September 17
Listen for selections from Fairport Convention’s 1968 self-titled debut album featuring guitar work from Richard Thompson and vocals from Judy Dyble. We’ll also hear music from Dyble’s latest, Earth Is Sleeping.
