Counties across the 4th Congressional District in Kansas today are certifying votes cast in last week’s special election.
Unofficial election results show Democratic candidate James Thompson and Libertarian Chris Rockhold lost to Republican Ron Estes' 53 percent of the vote in the race for the 4th District seat.
Now, election officials will approve any votes that may have been cast provisionally.
Harvey County, for example, has 53 provisional votes to certify, according to its elections website. Voter turnout there was about 35 percent.
In Sedgwick County, about 28 percent of registered voters cast ballots in the special election—compared to 64 percent in last year’s general election. Votes will be canvassed at 10 a.m. Monday at the county elections office.
