The Wichita City Council passed a motion today that will use nearly $1.5 million in taxes raised by tourism to improve cultural and tourism buildings. The council passed the motion unanimously.
Included in the funds is $125,000 to look at how much the city can expect to pay for repairs and upgrades to Century II over the next three decades. A sum of $85,000 will go toward trail and pathway safety, lighting and signage improvements at the Keeper of the Plains on the Little Arkanas River. The remaining funds will go to Mid-America All-Indian Center, the Museum of World Treasures, and the Wichita Art Museum.
An additional $300,000 will be used to improve seating and bathrooms as well as install a new sound system at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium. The council also approved a $240,000 contingency fund for unexpected expenses.
