Katelynn McIlwain
Korva Coleman Diversity in Journalism InternKatelynn McIlwain is a senior at the University of Missouri majoring in journalism (with a magazine writing emphasis) and minoring in digital storytelling. When she’s on campus, she works as an intern at the MU News Bureau and as a resident advisor for MU Residential Life. She is also a member of the Alpha Omega campus ministry.
Katelynn enjoys developing human interest pieces and arts and entertainment reviews. Naturally drawn to people and how their experiences create the lens through which they view the world, she is excited to continue reporting about the human condition and how a year of unprecedented events continues to impact the way we relate to one another. In writing for Vox Magazine, a city magazine in Columbia, Missouri, she has been able to cover everything from cosplay to race relations in Christian churches. Her reporting went international when she produced a story with The Global Journalist about Nigerian journalists working during the #EndSARS movement. She looks forward to giving underreported topics and communities a voice in a career of public radio.
When she’s not working, you’ll likely find her trying new restaurants (especially if it’s a local ice cream shop) and telling you more than you ever needed or wanted to know about K-Pop and animation.
