Hugo Phan
Digital News ReporterHugo Phan is a graduate of Wichita State University, where he majored in sociology and minored in communication. At a young age, Hugo picked up the habit of listening to KMUW from his father. After years of being a loyal listener, he signed up to be a KMUW volunteer and joined the station's college student group. He transitioned from volunteer to digital assistant in May 2013. In this role, Hugo has been recognized by the Kansas Association of Broadcasters for his contribution to the station's website, KMUW.org.
Hugo believes in the station's mission to promote insightful discussion and understanding of the issues that shape the city he's been lucky to call home for most of his life. Working at the station has given him a fresh perspective on Wichita, helping him to embrace and find pride in his own hometown. He’s been a volunteer with the Tallgrass Film Association for more than seven years and has served in the role of Box Office Coordinator for two years.
In his spare time, Hugo is a media consumption addict. Some of his favorite public radio programs include Strange Currency, All Things Considered, Morning Edition, Snap Judgment and This American Life.
