Next Best Thing: Ulrich + Artists + You

A couple of weeks ago, I mentioned the Ulrich Museum of Art’s community billboard project, Ulrich + Artists + You. Hopefully you’ve spotted some billboards around town. The first batch went up July 1 and new artwork will continue to pop up through November 30.

The Ulrich is taking the community aspect of this project seriously by collaborating with several local organizations. Full disclosure: KMUW is one of them.

Throughout the course of the project, KMUW’s Beth Golay, host of Marginalia and En Route, is leading digital book discussions on titles that explore themes related to the works.

Playlists to accompany the billboards, curated by Strange Currency host and producer Jedd Beaudoin, will be added to Spotify through November; just search for Ulrich Museum of Art in the Spotify app. And, if you’re hearing this in time, you can join Jedd for a Zoom conversation about the playlist-curation process. That is, or was, this morning at 10:30 — register here.

And Mark Arts and Envision have also partnered with the Ulrich for an exhibition titled Access Reimagined: Ulrich Community Billboard Project at Mark Arts. Local youth and teens who are blind or visually impaired have created tactile replications of the billboard artworks. A live tour of the exhibit will be streamed from Mark Arts’ Facebook page this Friday. You can check out the exhibition in person through September 25. Visitors are asked to make an appointment. Details are at markartsks.com.
