The Wichita Mom organization and United Way of the Plains are hosting a card drive for health care workers and residents in long-term care facilities. You can contribute by mailing drawings, homemade greeting cards, and letters of encouragement to United Way by April 30. They’ll take care of the rest.

The mailing address is: United Way of the Plains, attn: Kristin Bogner, 245 N Water, Wichita, KS 67212.

There’s a drive-thru donation event happening this Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to noon at First United Methodist Church, located at 330 N. Broadway in downtown Wichita. Volunteers with masks and gloves will accept donations of non-perishable foods, diapers of all sizes, and basic hygiene items. Click here for more information.

Woodlawn UMC in Derby has a similar event the following Saturday, May 9. Between 9:00 a.m. and noon, drop off your donations to help stock the pantry at Derby Community Family Services, located at 4904 S. Clifton Ave in Derby. Items currently in short supply include canned fruit, applesauce, dish soap and deodorant. For a full list, click here.

ICT Bar Rescue says they’ve raised more than $94,000 so far for hospitality workers in Wichita who have been affected by COVID-19 closures. Xclusive Events is hosting a Sangria Showdown on Friday, May 8, to further fund the cause. If you think your sangria recipe could be award-winning, drop off a batch at The Anchor Meat Market (along with a suggested donation of $10) between noon and 3:00 p.m. on May 8. The Anchor Meat Market is located at 1113 E. Douglas in downtown Wichita. Judging will be streamed live from Xclusive Events’ Facebook page starting at 3:00 p.m. Prizes will be awarded, but I think we all know that the judges are the real winners here.
