Buddy Guy + Mavis Staples, Louis Jordan, Joe Liggins & Elias Haslanger

Friday, July 9, and Sunday, July 11

Crossroads kicks off the July Buddy Guy birthday feature with music he did as a sideman at Chess, from his early days at Vanguard, and from the 1991 Grammy-winning album that launched his career renaissance.

Throughout the month the show also highlights the newly named nominees in the Blues Blast Music Awards, including this time selections from Bob Corritore, Gary Moore, Nick Moss, Veronica Lewis, and Tia Carroll

Crossroads also marks birthdays of jump blues artists Louis Jordan and Joe Liggins, the legendary Mavis Staples, and soul jazz saxophonist Elias Haslanger.

There’s also new music this time from Maria Muldaur, Deb Ryder, Adam Schultz, and the Alligator Records 50th anniversary compilation.

Chris Heim produces and hosts Global Village, a nationally and internationally distributed world music show; the nightly jazz show Night Train, and Crossroads, KMUW’s twice-weekly blues and R&B show. Chris is also a critic and freelance writer whose work has appeared in the Chicago Tribune, Utne, Global Rhythm, Dirty Linen, and Option, among others.
