Friday, December 11

We’ll hear selections from Fiona Apple’s 2020 release Fetch The Bolt Cutters as well as songs from Paul McCartney’s CHOBA B CCCP (Back in the U.S.S.R.). The former Beatle first released the album in Soviet Union in late 1988. It features a series of live-in-the-studio covers of early rock ‘n’ roll and R&B songs, similar to what he would do a decade later with the album Run Devil Run.

Recorded during JazzFest Berlin in November, 2019, Live is the new release from Angel Bat Dawid and Tha Brotherhood. Featuring elements of free jazz, the record has been heralded as an example of “exploration and exorcism” by Pitchfork. We’ll hear music from that as well as the 2020 release from Stick Men, Owari, recorded in collaboration with Gary Husband.

'Spencer Cullum's Coin Collection' from Spencer Cullum

Tuesday, December 15

Spencer Cullum’s Coin Collection finds English-born and Nashville-based musician Spencer Cullum looking back at the English folk revival of the late 1960s as well as the instrumental German music of that decade, often called Krautrock. We’ll hear music from that release as well as songs from Paul McCartney’s solo debut album, McCartney.

Wednesday, December 16

We mark the birthday of ZZ Top guitarist Billy Gibbons and hear selections from December featured artists The World Palestine and Paul McCartney.

Jedd Beaudoin is host/producer of the nationally syndicated program Strange Currency. He has also served as an arts reporter, a producer of A Musical Life and a founding member of the KMUW Movie Club. As a music journalist, his work has appeared in Pop Matters, Vox, No Depression and Keyboard Magazine.
