Soulsations' Uplifting Gospel Tunes Followed By Civil Rights Special Program

Sunday, June 14

This Sunday on Soulsations, we continue with our theme of socially conscious songs and gospel tunes that uplift the spirit. We’ll also hear from demonstrators at a recent Black Lives Matter rally in Wichita. Be sure to stay with us following Soulsations, as we air a special national program celebrating music from the Civil Rights Movement. That’s right after Soulsations wraps up at 7 p.m.

The Music of the Civil Rights and Black Consciousness Movements is a two-hour special production from the African-American Public Radio Consortium. The program weaves together over 60 songs with narrative of events and voice clips of history makers and historians. Host Esther Armah is an award-winning radio host and international journalist. Featured artists include:

  • Nina Simone
  • James Brown
  • John Coltrane
  • Bob Dylan
  • Sly Stone
  • Stevie Wonder
  • Sam Cooke
  • Marvin Gaye
  • Aretha Franklin
