Buddy Guy: The Comeback, Blues Blast Nominees & New Blues Releases

July 22/24

This week at the Crossroads, the July Buddy Guy feature continues with ‘the comeback’. After a few early successes, Guy found his career stalled in the ‘80s, but beginning with his 1991 release, Damn Right, I’ve Got the Blues, he emerged as one of the leading figures and elder statesmen of the blues – becoming a popular concert attraction and taking home a half dozen Grammys and countless other awards.  We’ll highlight music he did in the 1990s and 2000s, including from his Grammy-winning releases, Damn Right, Feels Like Rain, Slippin’ In, and Sweet Tea.

Plus concert previews, more Blues Blast Music Award nominees, and new music from Curtis Salgado, the Jon Spear Band, Eric Bibb, the Nick Moss Band, and more.

Chris Heim produces and hosts Global Village, a nationally and internationally distributed world music show; the nightly jazz show Night Train, and Crossroads, KMUW’s twice-weekly blues and R&B show. Chris is also a critic and freelance writer whose work has appeared in the Chicago Tribune, Utne, Global Rhythm, Dirty Linen, and Option, among others.
