Night Train celebrates birthdays of vibes players Dave Pike and Stefon Harris, and smart songwriter Dave Frishberg. There’s also more music from March featured artists Charles Lloyd (the first recorded version of “Dream Weaver” from a newly released album of previously unreleased concert performances) and Clark Terry (with singer Dinah Washington and pianist Oscar Peterson) – and in hour two, a special with Stefon Harris at Symphony Center.

Birthday celebrations tonight on the Night Train for vocalese star King Pleasure, Oregon member Paul McCandless, and pianists Steve Kuhn and Renee Rosnes. Plus music from March featured artists Clark Terry – from his classic Happy Horns album, and Charles Lloyd – with the groundbreaking million-seller Forest Flower – and an impressive new flamenco-meets-Monk release from pianist Alex Conde.
Wednesday March 25
Night Train continues with more music from March featured artists Clark Terry (with Thelonious Monk and from a performance at the Wichita Jazz Festival) and Charles Lloyd (a preview of his new album, Wild Man Dance). Night Train also marks birthdays of pianist Makoto Ozone and drummer Paul Motian, including an hour-long special in hour two highlighting some of the many sessions Motian did under his own name and with some of the greats of jazz – including Bill Evans, Charlie Haden, Bill Frisell and Keith Jarrett.

More music tonight from Night Train March featured artists Charles Lloyd and Clark Terry; new music from trombonist Steve Turre, vibes player Jason Marsalis, and pianist Marc Seales; and birthday salutes to saxophonists Flip Phillips and James Moody, including a special rebroadcast in hour two of the 75th birthday celebration for James Moody from Jazz at Lincoln Center.
