Marginalia: Mark Sundeen
In his book, The Unsettlers: In Search of the Good Life in Today’s America, author Mark Sundeen set out to do just that. Find the good life.
He wanted to talk with people who had freed themselves from commercial civilization, hoping they might give him a direction for doing it himself. His search lead him to three couples: the first living on a farm in La Plata, Missouri with no electricity or running water; the second making a go at urban farming in Detroit, Michigan; and the third had been running an organic farm in Missoula, Montana for decades.
Sundeen spent quite a bit of time with these families, tracing their individual searches for the simple life. Did it help him in his own search for the good life?
