State and Sedgwick County environmental leaders are hosting a public meeting Thursday on the groundwater contamination issue in Haysville.

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment is expected to update residents on the current impacts to domestic wells due to contamination from dry-cleaning related solvents.

KDHE attributes the contamination to the former American Cleaners site on West Grand Avenue in Haysville.

Commissioner Michael O’Donnell says this is second public meeting on the issue.

"We’ll have members of the environmental department down there along with state legislators and members of KDHE," O'Donnell says.

Plans for long-term alternative drinking water supplies to impacted areas will also be discussed.

The meeting will take place at 6 p.m. on Thursday at the former Alternative Haysville High School at 106 Steward Avenue.

Representatives from the city of Haysville, Sedgwick County as well as State Sen. Dan Kerschen and State Rep. John Whitmer will be there to answer questions.
