Wichita city council members are expected to approve the 2018 recommended funding allocations for arts and cultural organizations on Tuesday during their weekly council meeting.
The Cultural Funding Committee reviews applications using three broad categories: quality of organization, financial need and community impact. The group scores the applications and makes recommendations to the city manager and City Council. John D’Angelo, director of Arts and Cultural Services for the City of Wichita, says the city provides about $3 million through operating grants for arts and cultural organizations.
"I think it’s a continuation of the rich arts community, that obviously is very strong here in Wichita, and the city’s commitment to continue to help them from the standpoint of operating dollars that they supply to them," D'Angelo says.
Organizations recommended to receive grants include Arts Partners, Tallgrass Film Association, Wichita Chamber at the Barn, Griots Storytelling Institute and the American Guild of Organists. D’Angelo says the application for 2019 grants will be available in December.
