Jordan Bollig plays electric and upright bass in a variety of musical settings including Cherokee Maidens. He plays electric guitar in The Banned and teaches at both Wichita State University and School of Rock.

“I’ve always been drawn to people who do things outside the norm.

I don’t think you can be successful as a musician and not be diversified. The people I know who are the most successful can go play in a country band and then go rock ‘Giant Steps’ at night at the local coffee shop. I think that that is a healthy way to be a musician because you pull in so many outside influences.

If it wasn’t for Cliff Burton of Metallica I never would have gotten into music. And then I learned that he studied music in college, at least for a little bit, and he listened to Bach fugues and he listened to Simon and Garfunkel. So I was, like, ‘Wow! I didn’t know you could be that cool and still have all this other cool stuff to listen to!’

In all the different styles of music that I listen to the bass seems to have such a power over the dance of the music. You could have a bass playing quarter notes and all of a sudden it kicks into eighth notes and all of a sudden the song completely changes.”
