Brazil, the Latin American epicenter of coronavirus, saw a record high in daily coronavirus deaths this week. But President Jair Bolsonaro insists that the country’s businesses must stay open. And in countries across Latin America, outbreaks now rival those in Europe. However, an analysis by the New York Times reported that conditions in those countries will lead to worse outcomes compared to their European counterparts.

Meanwhile, officials in Wuhan announced that they planned to test all 11 million of the city’s residents for COVID-19. The measures are reportedly meant to combat a potential second wave of infection after six new cases broke a 35 day infection-free streak earlier this week. The goal of testing every citizen within the city would set a precedent not seen anywhere else, including countries like Germany, which was early to test and combat COVID-19.

As another model of flattening the curve, South Korea was successful in reducing the number of outbreaks early on. But after reports of reducing restrictions throughout the country, there’s been a resurgence of new coronavirus cases. The country has begun an aggressive campaign to trace infections in order to stop a potential resurgence.

We’ll talk about all news happening around the world this week on the News Roundup.
