Business leaders in Wichita’s aviation industry, along with state and city economic development officials, will be in England this week for the Farborough International Airshow.

The airshow, which begins today and runs through Friday, is considered the world’s largest. More than 75 of the world’s top 100 aerospace companies will attend the show, which is held every two years.

In 2016, more than $124 billion in airplane orders and commitments were announced at Farnborough.

The Wichita Community Foundation has created a $1 million fund to help the city deal with workforce issues.

The Talent Ecosystem Fund is meant to attack challenges identified by the Focus Forward project, according to a news release. Among those challenges is attracting a talented workforce to Wichita.

Wichita Public Schools on Monday proposed a new high school aviation curriculum, with the goal of getting students ready to work in the aviation industry immediately after graduation.

WSU Tech in Wichita is expanding an aviation training program in order to meet workforce demand from Spirit AeroSystems and other companies.

WSU Tech saw its enrollment jump 17 percent in the last year.

This is the fourth semester that WSU Tech (formerly known as Wichita Area Technical College) saw a strong increase in enrollment. That's based on an internal census done by the technical college looking at spring semester enrollment.

“I was pleasantly surprised," said Andy McFayden, WSU Tech's executive director of marketing and community outreach.
