Weekend Temps Should Be Warmer

We’ve seen a dramatic change in our weather this week. Wichita recorded record high temperatures on Sunday and Monday but a cold front passed over us on Tuesday, bringing much colder temperatures and a light mixture of rain and snow.

Through Friday, we’ll see daytime high temperatures in Wichita in the 40s and overnight lows dropping into the 20s.

Just in time for the weekend, temperatures will moderate with highs climbing back into the 50s and overnight lows in the 30s.

Snow, Ice Hazards For Postal Workers

With the recent snowfall, the Wichita Postmaster is reminding customers to clear and maintain a safe, accessible path to mailboxes as soon as possible after it snows.

Wichita Postmaster Evie Tan-Todd says winter storms make mail delivery challenging for letter carriers. She says clearing a path to your mailbox will help to keep letter carriers safe and ensure mail delivery each day. Postal customers who receive door mail delivery should keep their sidewalks, steps, and access ways clear of snow and ice.

First Winter Storm Brings High Winds, Closes Highways

Portions of two major highways in northwestern Kansas have been closed because of hazardous winter weather conditions.

A powerful storm moving out of the Rockies Wednesday created near blizzard conditions in portions of the state. Transportation officials closed sections of Interstate 70 and U.S. 36. Blowing snow also contributed to a crash that closed Kansas 96 between Tribune and Leoti.

At least two school districts canceled classes Wednesday ahead of the storm.
