WSU Tech Enrollment Up For Fourth Semester In A Row

WSU and WSU Tech opened their shared space in Old Town last year. WSU Tech is reporting another enrollment jump for its spring semester.

WSU Tech saw its enrollment jump 17 percent in the last year.

This is the fourth semester that WSU Tech (formerly known as Wichita Area Technical College) saw a strong increase in enrollment. That's based on an internal census done by the technical college looking at spring semester enrollment.

“I was pleasantly surprised," said Andy McFayden, WSU Tech's executive director of marketing and community outreach.

"I just think that it’s a combination of the Wichita Promise scholarship and then just a continued need in industry for these skilled trained positions out there," said McFayden.

The Wichita Promise scholarship gives accepted students free tuition for specific high-demand jobs.

Other technical colleges across Kansas have seen strong enrollment numbers at the same time that many state universities have seen enrollment drop.

WSU Tech's affiliation with Wichita State University was approved last year.
