A support center for people impacted by the tornadoes that hit the town of Eureka and the surrounding area last week closed today.
With the closure of the Multi-Agency Resource Center (MARC), residents impacted by the tornado will work with representatives from the Red Cross at the Eureka Public Library. An information table and resource guide listing additional resources available from community partners will also be available at the library.
In the days since the storm, 13 state and local agencies provided services and referrals to a total of 170 people in need of assistance.
“I am grateful for the support of the local community and partner agencies,” Michelle Jantz, executive director of the Red Cross, said in a statement. “The community spirit in Eureka is heartwarming to see. Red Cross will continue to partner local agencies to support recovery efforts in the weeks and months to come.”
On Friday, Gov. Sam Brownback declared a state of disaster emergency in the area, which allowed the use of state resources and personnel to assist with response and recovery operations.
An estimated 150 structures were damaged by the tornadoes. No injuries were reported.
