Project Wichita Diving Deeper With Second Set Of Surveys

Project Wichita is asking Wichitans what initiatives they’d like to see the city focus on through a set of new surveys.

The second part of the listening phase is designed to dive deeper into community-related topics that were assessed from the first batch of results.

Wichita State University's Public Policy and Management Center analyzed more than 3,800 responses from the first set of results to design a survey targeted to specific community-related questions.

Project Wichita was launched earlier this year as a way to lay out a 10-year plan for the city through public input and discussion. The surveys are designed to assess attitudes from Wichitans ages 16 to 99.

“This focus group information allows us to get to the heart of what our community is thinking and dreaming about," says Evan Rosell with the Greater Wichita Partnership and Project Wichita. "It allows us to build this survey around real issues — the things folks are talking about at their kitchen tables or church lobbies."

Project Wichita will then take the information to what it calls its "vision team," a group of 90 organizations in the region. The team will build a strategic plan that will highlight three to five key steps the community can take to move forward.

“The community’s voice is really critical in this,” Rosell says. “We hope to see that voice reflected strongly in the survey."

Rosell says he would like to hear feedback from teens about what would keep them in the region. The survey is available online at projectwichita.org through July 6.
