Wichita Public Schools is opening a new school for struggling students.
The Bryant Opportunity Academy will serve about 100 kindergarten-through-sixth grade students struggling with behavior issues. Students could remain at the school for a semester or for years, depending on their needs.
The academy will have additional counselors and social workers, along with more structure and project-based learning.
"Some of our students have never learned how to play the game of school," says Terrell Davis, the executive director of public affairs and special projects with Wichita Public School.
"And so here’s an opportunity in a more structured environment with support systems in place that kids can learn that vital behavior that they need to be successful," he says.
The Bryant Opportunity Academy will open in the fall near Hadley Middle School.
