The Q-Line Trolley will operate exclusively on Douglas beginning next month.

The Q-Line trolley is revamping its routes beginning next month.

The trolley service will begin running along Douglas only on Dec. 15. Those routes will be extended to Seneca.

The Old Town and Government routes, which have fewer passengers, will be discontinued to accommodate the changes.

The extension means the Q-Line will reach an additional 5,000 Wichitans, said city transit director Mike Tann during this week’s announcement.

“The key to any of these systems is simplicity,” Tann said. “All you need to know is what day of the week it is and what time of the day it is, and the trolley line or the app will tell you exactly where it's going to go and how far it's going to go.”

The Q-Line also is extending its hours. It will run from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. during lunch and from 5 to 11 at night on weekdays from Seneca to Hydraulic. On Friday and Saturday, the Q will run from Seneca to Edgemoor until 1 a.m. There is no service on Sunday.

“We feel this iteration [of the Q-Line] you’re going to see now is an improvement,” Tann said. “It will be easier to understand, and much more precise in where it’s going.”

There is no charge to ride the trolley.
