New Month/New Music, Best Of 2017 & Elmore James Centennial

January 5/7

It’s “New Month/New Music” time as Crossroads teams up with Global Village and Strange Currency at the beginning of every month to feature the best in new blues releases.

Among the highlights this time:

Previews of January releases from Tinsley Ellis, Billy Thompson, Lex Grey & the Urban Pioneers, Curtis Salgado with Alan Hagar, and an all-star tribute to blues legend Elmore James, Strange Angels, for his centennial.

Crossroads also kicks off its own month-long salute to Elmore James and the January Best of 2017 feature, including a series of specials featuring some of this year’s blues Grammy nominees. This week it’s Traditional Blues Album nominee Eric Bibb in a live performance from the Fur Peace Ranch.

Chris Heim produces and hosts Global Village, a nationally and internationally distributed world music show; the nightly jazz show Night Train, and Crossroads, KMUW’s twice-weekly blues and R&B show. Chris is also a critic and freelance writer whose work has appeared in the Chicago Tribune, Utne, Global Rhythm, Dirty Linen, and Option, among others.
