Improvements on the Redbud Trail

If you’ve been curious about the inviting steel archways and concrete panels erected in northeast Wichita, it’s part of a two and a half mile stretch of the Redbud Bike Trail. It’s called a 'pause point' in the trail and it has circular plazas as resting places for walkers, joggers and people on bikes. Artwork will be added to each of the pause points – that design idea came from Wichita City Councilwoman Lavonta Williams, who met up with KMUW’s Carla Eckels recently to check it out at one of the sites…

The Redbud trail stretches 11 miles in northeastern Wichita, intersecting with the K-96 bike path and the McAdam’s Bike Path.

The trail passes city parks and employment hubs. The new segment is a 2.5 mile pathway from Hydraulic to Oliver near Wichita State.

The project is expected to be completed by the end of this summer.

75-year-old Larry Ross loves going for a bicycle ride. It’s his main source of transportation. He says there’s no place better to put a dreamer than atop of a bicycle. KMUW’s Carla Eckels caught up with Larry near the Redbud Trail pause point at 17th & Oliver near Wichita State University.
