U.S. Secretary of Education, John B. King, Jr., announced on Wednesday that Challenger Intermediate School in Goddard has been named a 2016 National Blue Ribbon School.
Challenger is one of 279 public and 50 private schools receiving the honor.
According to a release from the Goddard district, schools are nominated for the award by the state department of education. The honor means Challenger Intermediate is performing among the top 0.4% of schools in the country.
Goddard Public Schools, which is just west of Wichita, is one of three districts in Kansas with two Blue Ribbon schools awarded within the past five years.
