Duke Robillard, Otis Rush, Elvin Bishop Birthday, Blues Blast Winners & Concerts

October 19/21

Crossroads continues the October feature celebrating the 70th birthday of blues guitarist, songwriter, bandleader and producer Duke Robillard, including music from his brief stint with the Fabulous Thunderbirds and from one of his solo albums.

Throughout the month, we also pay tribute to blues legend Otis Rush, who recently passed away. We’ll hear is very first single, the classic “I Can’t Quit You Baby,” along with later music he did for the Alligator label.

Plus a birthday salute to Elvin Bishop (including a special featuring him in hour two of the show), recently announced Blues Blast Music Awards winners and Lifetime Achievement honorees, artists with concerts in the coming week, and new releases from Boz Scaggs, Suzie Vinnick, Samantha Martin and more.

Chris Heim produces and hosts Global Village, a nationally and internationally distributed world music show; the nightly jazz show Night Train, and Crossroads, KMUW’s twice-weekly blues and R&B show. Chris is also a critic and freelance writer whose work has appeared in the Chicago Tribune, Utne, Global Rhythm, Dirty Linen, and Option, among others.
