Demolition Of Old Wichita Airport Terminal To Start This Month

Wikipedia
Since the new terminal opened in 2015, the old terminal has been waiting to be demolished. Air Service and Business Development Manager Valerie Wise said it's because interior demolition has been taking place, including asbestos removal.

Demolition of the old Mid-Continent Airport terminal will begin later this month.

The new terminal at Wichita’s Eisenhower National Airport was completed almost four years ago, in June 2015. Since then, the old terminal has been waiting to be torn down.

Valerie Wise, air service and business development manager at Eisenhower, said it’s because they had to get everything out of the old terminal first.

“There’s been a lot going on inside the building,” Wise said. “They’ve been doing the interior demolition ever since we opened the new terminal.”

The exterior demolition will start sometime the week of Jan. 21, but the exact date has yet to be determined. Wise said travelers should not worry about it affecting their schedules.

“The demolition will not have an impact on the air traffic in and out of ICT,” Wise said.

She said she expects the demolition to be completed by May.
