Bad Self Portraits, Tall Tales, Alibis And An Ongoing Riot

Monday, March 12

We’ll hear selections from Lake Street Dive’s 2014 release Bad Self Portraits plus music from the latest by Kansas singer-songwriter Maria Elena.

Tuesday, March 13

Tall Tales and Alibis is the new triple LP by musician Steve Barton. The record covers a wide range of emotions and styles while further cementing Barton’s reputation as a world class songwriter. We’ll hear music from Tall Tales and Alibis as well as selections from Translator, the band which Barton was a member of from 1979 to 1986 and which he helped reform in 2012.

Wednesday, March 14

Released in 1980, In Combo was the debut from the Minneapolis, Minnesota band The Suburbs. The record has been hailed as a pioneering moment in the American post-punk scene and arguably the group’s finest hour. Listen for selections from In Combo plus music from Electric Bird Digest, the 1991 effort from Young Fresh Fellows.

Thursday, March 15

Listen for songs about and inspired by the Ides of March, including music from Bonnie “Prince” Billy, The O’Jays and more.

Friday, March 16

They Shoot, We Score is a 2008 compilation from Yo La Tengo, featuring music the trio contributed to films such as Junebug, Shortbus, Game 6 and others. We’ll hear music from that release plus songs by Sonic Youth from the 2004 album Sonic Nurse.

Saturday, March 17

Listen for selections from There’s A Riot Going On, the brand-new release from Yo La Tengo as we as music from Hootenanny, 1983 album from The Replacements.

Monday, March 19

And Then Nothing Turned Itself Inside-Out is the 2000 album from Yo La Tengo, notable for its inclusion of songs such as “The Crying of Lot G” and “From Black to Blue.” We’ll hear music from that as well as from Sonic Youth’s Goo LP.

Tuesday, March 20

We celebrate the first day of Spring with music from Hot Chip, Patti Smith, Prince and more.
