1A Across America is a two-year collaborative effort to bring more local viewpoints to 1A’s national audience. Started in 2019, 1A’s production team has worked in partnership with six public media stations, including KMUW, to bring underreported local points of view and issues of importance into a national conversation through on-air discussions and interviews, field reporting and live events.1A airs weekdays from 9 to 11 a.m. on KMUW 89.1-FM. The program is produced by WAMU 88.5, and distributed by NPR.

What is 1A Across America?

1A Across America is a two-year collaboration to incorporate more local and regional voices into the national conversation. Leading up to the 2020 elections, 1A’s production team will work closely with KMUW to bring the region’s underreported issues and concerns to 1A’s national audience.

1A Across America will crowdsource show ideas from listeners in the Wichita to rectify identified gaps in national news coverage. These will be heard through on-air discussions and interviews, field reporting and live events.

1A Across America is funded through a grant from The Corporation for Public Broadcasting. CPB is a private, nonprofit corporation created by Congress in 1967 that is the steward of the federal government’s investment in public broadcasting. CPB is also the largest single source of funding for research, technology, and program development for public radio, television and related online services.
