Fill-In Host

Frank Dudgeon has worked in radio for more than 40 years, beginning in commercial radio. He began his public radio career in 1989 at WUMB in Boston. Frank worked at KMUW several years ago, went back to Boston for a few years, came to his senses, and returned to KMUW in July, 2003.

Frank has hosted Morning Edition for almost seven years, with a couple of years spent as host of All Things Considered. He also spends time behind the scenes making sure you hear what you're supposed to and at the right time.

In his leisure time, Frank enjoys reading, watching Boston Red Sox games and collecting historical items dealing with magic and magicians.

State Wants Changes To Motor Vehicle System

Kansas is renegotiating its contract with the company that supplied the state with its new motor vehicle system.

The state’s contract with the company, 3M, was supposed to end Friday. But Kansas Revenue Secretary Nick Jordan said the state has a list of changes it wants made to the system before signing off on the contract.

Since the state launched the new $40 million motor vehicle system May 9th many county treasurers’ offices have complained about problems with the system that tie up their clerks and increase the amount of time it takes to process customers.

Kansas Prepares For New Tax Rules

Preparations are underway for tax changes next year. Kansas Department of Revenue staff is working this summer to write the new rules and regulations that will guide the agency as it implements a sweeping series of cuts to the state’s income tax system.

Secretary Nick Jordan says the agency is meeting with accountants and lawyers to discuss the new law and write the policies that will govern how taxes are collected for individuals and businesses.

Education Official Testifies In School Funding Lawsuit

A Kansas official says school districts are concerned about more than just the resources needed to provide their students with a suitable education.

Deputy Education Commissioner Craig Neuenswander finished testifying today in the trial of a lawsuit over how Kansas funds its public schools. He was called by attorneys for the 54 school districts whose lawsuit claims Kansas has been spending too little to satisfy the state constitution’s requirement for providing a “suitable” education.  He said schools want to make sure students have the knowledge they need to be productive.

History Of The KMUW Pledge Drives

Pat Hayes has been with KMUW since 1978,

On the heels of her 68th pledge drive, KMUW’s member services coordinator Pat Hayes was honored with the WSU President’s Distinguished Service Award.

Her first day was Nov. 13, 1978 and has been with KMUW ever since.

Frank Dudgeon interviewed Pat about her history with the station and how things have changed throughout the years.
