Volunteer at KMUW / WRRS
Volunteering at KMUW
Gives you the opportunity to meet on-air personalities, behind the scene staffers and other Wichita Public Radio supporters. Phone volunteers are needed for KMUW’s pledge drives, which take place twice a year in the Spring and Fall. Volunteers will answer phones and fill out pledge forms during this busy time.
KMUW representatives, or “Airheads,” staff our tables at various community arts and cultural events. Airheads help field questions regarding Wichita Public Radio, hand out appropriate information, and greet listeners. To be eligible to become an Airhead you must have participated in at least two pledge drives and be thoroughly familiar withour programming. Also, you must be mentored for a period of time by another Airhead.
Volunteering with WRRS
The Wichita Radio Reading Service provides daily readings of newspapers, magazines and novels for area citizens who can no longer read 14-point type due to visual, physical or cognitive handicaps. Volunteers usually read once or twice per month. Reading sessions are one hour in length and you will be scheduled according to your availability. No special skills are needed, just enjoyment of reading out loud.
