April 2010: Jazz Appreciation Month

Jazz Meets World In honor of Jazz Appreciation Month, Global Village will focus throughout April on the exciting borders where jazz meets world music. Jazz has always been a very rich and absorptive genre, open to a wide variety of influences and styles. In recent years, one of the most exciting and engaging developments in jazz has come from the exploration of influences, rhythms and styles from around the world. Latin jazz too has seen a remarkable resurgence, with a number of artists pushing the boundaries beyond earlier Afro-Cuban and Brazilian blends. Throughout April, we’ll highlight everything from early world/jazz experiments to some of today’s most exciting and innovative new players and projects.
