May 11th—Frank Dudgeon discussing Folk Music
Frank Dudgeon is KMUW’s Morning Edition Host. A look at some of the people who influenced and spurred the folk revival in America in the 1960s and ‘70s. Frank spent the first part of his radio career as a music programmer and worked at stations that played a significant amount of folk music. We’ll hear samples of some of the big folk names of the era – Pete Seeger, Bob Dylan, Joan Baez - along with some other important, but less well known artists, such as Dave Von Ronk, Ramblin’ Jack Elliott and Mississippi John Hurt. Folk music has played a leading role in social issues, from the labor and peace movements to civil rights and we will hear some examples. From blues to bluegrass and traditional music to singer songwriters, folk music has a variety of styles and sounds, and we’ll sample a number of them.

Music Tasting 2010-2011 will begin in September.
